The Soapy Soaps Story

Welcome to Soapy Soaps and thanks for visiting our website! Soapy Soaps was formed in the summer of 2010 by Morgan Lund Yen and Sue May Yen, two avid soap-makers (and sisters-in-law.) Our soaps are currently available on etsy.

Morgan was introduced to home-made soap by Sue May, who often shared her wonderful hand-made soaps with her. After using them, Morgan found her skin softer and healthier than ever before. When Morgan found herself without a job and out of Sue May’s soap at the same time, she decided to take matters into her own hands and try soap-making out herself. After her first batch of soap, that was barely usable, she keep trying until she mastered the craft! As an artist, she is interested in all things creative and naturally took to soap-making. Morgan especially enjoys experimenting with different soap bases & fragrance combinations. Some of her favorite ingredients include: wine, fresh cucumber, coconut milk, and pumpkin puree. Morgan makes soap in Los Angeles.

Sue May was introduced to the amazing world of soap-making by her high school chemistry teacher.  Although her first science-experiment bar of soap smelled and looked awful, she was nonetheless impressed by how it lathered and cleaned beautifully. Like magic! Since then she has been a dedicated craft soap-maker and has shared countless bars with her family and friends. At home, her soaps are used for all purposes: the bath, kitchen, laundry, and as general household cleaners. Over the years she has learned much about the health and environmental benefits of true soap and especially enjoys experimenting with natural colorants and scents. Sue May is based in San Francisco.

The goal of Soapy Soaps is simple: to create and share high-quality soaps that are mild, moisturizing, and long-lasting.  We use the cold process method of soap-making and rely only on vegetable-based oils and as many natural ingredients as possible. Our soaps do not contain artificial preservatives or stabilizers, and whenever possible we use natural colorants and fragrances. Interesting and unique ingredient/scent/color combinations are our speciality. We hope you enjoy our soaps as much as we love making them!
